The Solheim Cup is a women's golf competition between teams from Europe and the United States, played every two years. The venue alternates between courses in the USA and Europe. The cup is played over three days, in the same format as the men's version, the Ryder Cup.
The inaugural event took place in 1990, and has been held every two years since then. Only in 2002 and 2003 there was a competition held two years in a row as the tournament switched from being held in even number years to odd years. The Ryder Cup is held on the alternate years.
There has only been one hole-in-one during the tournament, by Swedish player Anna Nordqvist at the 17th at Colorado Golf Club in 2003. Up until the 2017 event, the United States leads the series with 10 wins to 5.
